Berkshire Maestros Job Opportunities Berkshire Music Hub
Newbury Music Centre

Berkshire Maestros' Newbury Music Centre runs music lessons, choirs and instrumental ensembles for children and young adults in the West Berkshire area. Based at St Bartholomew’s School in Newbury, the centre benefits from excellent facilities, including 14 teaching rooms (several with pianos), the use of the School Hall and three larger areas. On a Saturday morning there is a tuck shop run by the Parents and Friends Association, with comfy seating for parents to wait for their children.

The centre is a buzzing environment with high quality music education at its heart, providing young people with a safe and friendly environment to learn and make new friends.

To find us, please enter the St Bartholomew’s School site via the main gate on Buckingham Road, where you will find ample parking. Enter the school building via the Community Entrance (follow the signs to the yellow foyer on the left side of the school and use code to enter). During the school day you must report to the school reception first.

Due to the coronavirus situation, Newbury Music Centre is currently closed and we are running music centre lessons and ensembles online. We aim to reopen the music centre as soon as we are safely able to do so, based upon the latest regulations issued by government.

Newbury St Barts

Lessons

At Newbury Music Centre we provide lessons after school and at the weekends in a wide range of instruments and styles to suit all (subject to the availability of our teachers). We have a large number of teaching rooms of varying sizes to run the lessons in and parents can wait in our reception area if necessary.

Lessons are fun and interactive and provide children with the skills and knowledge to become excellent musicians. Sessions are tailored to individual needs and can build up to music examinations or simply focus on the enjoyment of playing. It might also be possible to hire an instrument from us if you are interested in lessons but don't own an instrument (subject to availability and our usual terms and conditions of instrument hire).

Find out more about the range of lessons we offer.

    Ensembles

As well as lessons, Newbury Music Centre provides an opportunity for young musicians to join a wide variety of musical ensembles. These range from Early Years classes with Mini Maestros, through beginner bands to the most advanced ensembles in each area. Opportunities are available for string ensembles, wind ensembles, brass bands, percussion ensembles, choirs and guitar bands, and also contemporary workshops/sessions for rock musicians. Classes in music theory are available to those wanting to improve their academic music knowledge.

Ensembles provide a perfect opportunity for young musicians to enjoy playing as part of a team, improving and enhancing many areas of their learning. Their knowledge of repertoire will be extended and they will learn more about techniques and musicality.

Ensembles also enable young musicians to come together to share a joint passion and create new lasting friendships.
